Relocatable homes NZ — fold it down, take it with you

A home that isn't tied to the section it landed on. Fold the walls back in, crane it out, put it down somewhere else.

Expanders® relocatable homes fold back into a standard container footprint, so they can be craned off a site and transported to a new one on ordinary container transport. Sizes range from a 13m² studio at $24,500 to a 40ft four-bedroom at $67,125+. This makes them suited to leased land, rural blocks, staged builds and family situations where the dwelling may need to move. Every unit carries a 3-year structural warranty.

When relocatability actually matters

Leased or licensed land, papakāinga and family land arrangements, staged self-builds where you live on site during construction, and rural blocks that may be sold or subdivided. In all of these, a permanently fixed dwelling is a liability and a relocatable one is an asset you keep.

It also matters for resale. A folded unit can be sold to a buyer anywhere in New Zealand because moving it is a standard freight job, not a house-moving project.

What relocating involves

Disconnect services, fold the two side walls back in, crane it onto a truck. In practice that's a day at each end plus transport. The building is designed for repeated folding — the mechanism, seals and chassis are engineered for it, unlike a converted container or a site-built cabin that was never meant to move twice.

Warranty and durability

Steel chassis with zinc primer and epoxy coating, EPS-insulated panels, MGO subfloor and aluminium double-glazed joinery. 3-year structural warranty, and TransitCare protection is available for delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Can an Expanders® home be relocated after installation?

Yes. The walls fold back into a standard container footprint and the unit can be craned and transported to a new site on ordinary container transport.

How much does it cost to relocate one?

Relocation is quoted like a standard container freight job plus craneage at each end, which is typically far cheaper than moving a conventional transportable home as an oversize load.

Does relocating affect the warranty?

The units are engineered for repeated folding. Contact us before relocating so we can advise on the process and any inspection requirements.
