Living on the Gold Coast, Shad was working in marketing for a transportable building company. Expandable buildings were popular in Australia but barely known in NZ.

A SIMPLE IDEA
Why Expanders® Exists
Flexible buildings that are faster, more affordable, and more practical.
Expanders® started with a simple idea: creating flexible buildings that are faster, more affordable, and more practical than traditional construction.
After seeing how slow and expensive conventional builds had become in New Zealand, we began exploring expandable building systems used internationally, structures that could be delivered, installed, and lived in far quicker than traditional builds.
What started as a small operation has grown into one of New Zealand’s most recognised expandable building suppliers, with 400+ buildings delivered across 9 countries.
OUR JOURNEY
From an idea to buildings across nine countries.
Late 2023
Expanders® is founded.
Shad came home to Christchurch and set up the company, working alongside trusted builders, electricians, plumbers, architects and engineers to bring expandable buildings to the NZ market.
2024
Warehouse, trade shows and rapid growth.
Taylor and Shanae joined the team. At our first major trade show, the Christchurch A&P Show, visitors queued to walk through the buildings. We set up our Christchurch warehouse and operations base and delivered over 100 buildings across NZ and the Pacific that year.
2025
Better buildings.
Production moved to an upgraded, purpose-built overseas factory. We've refined the design more than 16 times based on customer feedback and New Zealand conditions, including fixing issues like leaks and non-compliant materials. We also became the exclusive Pacific distributor of these NZ-optimised buildings.
2026
International projects and Auckland.
The Government of Kiribati contracted us to supply 16 expandable buildings, and we opened our Auckland location to serve North Island customers.

Our buildings are manufactured overseas by our long-term manufacturing partner, to our New Zealand specification. We don't pretend otherwise.
